California has many beautiful National Parks and Monuments. There is the awe-inspiring Yosemite, with its sheer granite walls and roaring waterfalls, arguably one of America's most spectacular parks, or, if you want to go where pine trees and tranquil pastureland meet the rocky coast, try Point Reyes National Seashores just north of San Francisco. Also in the north is Redwood National Park, which along with outstanding coastal scenery, has many miles of trails among magnificent old-growth redwood trees. In Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in the south, you can also find giant trees - including The General Sherman Sequoia tree, which with a 102 foot base circumference and 275 foot height is the largest living thing in the world.

Other National Parks in California include Channel Islands, Death Valley National Monument and Lassen Volcanic National Park.

The National Park Service maintains a total of 23 different units in California including nine National Parks. National Park Service areas offer visitors a wide variety of adventures from historical and cultural experiences to natural wonders which can be seen nowhere else on earth.
