La Purísima Mission - State Historic Park

Misión la Purísima Concepción de María Santísima, founded in 1787, is one of the most completely restored missions of the 21 Spanish missions in California. This is the largest and most authentic mission restoration project in the American West.
The original buildings were destroyed by an earthquake in 1812. During the 1930s, the WPA and CCC restored many of the mission’s adobe buildings.
A Visitor Center features information, displays and artifacts. A self-guided tour gives visitors the opportunity to step back in time for a glimpse of life of California in the early 1880s.
The park contains the church, shops, quarters, springhouse, cemetery and mission gardens. Special living history events are scheduled throughout the year.
Location-Directions
The park is about two miles northeast of Lompoc.
Driving time from Lompoc takes about 5 to 15 minutes depending on your location. Visitors can also bike, jog, or walk to the mission from Lompoc.
